April Hill has been trained in The Gottman Method, designed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, to support couples at any stage, across all economic, racial, and cultural sectors. Research has shown this form of therapy has worked with both heterosexual, as well as same-sex relationships.
Relationship issues that may be addressed in therapy include:
- Frequent conflict and arguments
- Poor communication
- Emotionally distanced couples
- Specific problems such as sexual difficulties, infidelity, money, and parenting styles
According to The Gottman Method, there are nine principles making up a healthy relationship, these components are known as the Sound Relationship House theory. These include:
- Building love maps (learning about each other)
- Sharing fondness and admiration
- Turning towards each other, as opposed to away from one another
- The positive perspective of seeing your partner as a friend, not an enemy
- Managing conflict
- Making life dreams come true
- Creating shared meaning
- Trust
- Commitment
